LONDON, Oct. 15 -- An environmental protest body, known as Extinction Rebellion, on Tuesday continued demonstrations in central London despite police warnings they will be arrested if their action does not stop immediately.
At about 8:00 a.m. local time, the group's co-founder Gail Bradbrook was arrested shortly after she climbed on top of building doorway of the British Department for Transport in Westminster.
A spokesman for the group said they are "almost certainly" continuing the protests. "We are going to carry on; we're fighting for all of our futures."
As of Tuesday morning, Scotland Yard said 1,457 arrests and 100 charges have been made in connection with the protests, which began last Monday, following an earlier warning that anyone defying police orders will be detained.
A number of demonstrations have been staged across the British capital by the group, which is calling on the UK government to do more to tackle climate change. The protests were due to last two weeks.
